SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability Approach
Emerald’s core objective is to operate gold mining projects that deliver strong returns for shareholders while simultaneously ensuring a net positive impact in the communities we operate in and the environment. The Company’s values—honesty, respect, safety, performance, accountability, and collaboration—serve as the foundation of our operations, guiding Emerald’s commitment to maintaining its social license to operate.
We are unwavering in our dedication to conducting business in a safe, responsible, and sustainable manner. The Company’s sustainability approach includes:
- Upholding high environmental standards with a focus on results-driven, effective methods.
- Supporting nature-based initiatives that promote biodiversity and preserve ecosystems.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to maximise social benefits and foster positive change.
- Safeguarding communities from operational impacts through responsible practices and transparent communication.
In addition, Emerald is committed to fair work and diversity, demonstrating our focus on social engagement, investment, and corporate social responsibility. The Company recognises that our long-term success is tied to the well-being of the people and environments where we operate.
Our commitment to transparency and responsible governance is demonstrated by voluntarily disclosing to ESG rating organisations, including ISS and CDP. Achieving a CDP score of B for Climate in 2024 reflects our proactive approach to managing climate-related risks and opportunities, reinforcing our alignment with best practices and contribution to addressing climate change. These disclosures support ongoing improvement in our environmental, social, and governance practices while maintaining high sustainability standards.
As Cambodia’s first modern, large-scale mining operation, our Okvau Gold Mine in Cambodia reflects the Company’s dedication to socially and environmentally responsible practices. The Company aligns its operations with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and looks to the IFC Performance Standards and West Australian mining legislation as a benchmark to elevate the emerging Cambodian mining industry. The Company actively engages with a variety of government and non-government organisations to enhance knowledge and build capacity in mining and exploration. The Company regularly hosts mine tours and presents on mining and ESG topics at relevant forums, fostering collaboration and promoting best practices within the industry.
In late 2024, Emerald successfully completed a comprehensive Materiality Assessment, engaging stakeholders to identify and prioritise the key environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics that are critical to our ongoing sustainability efforts. This thorough assessment ensures that Emerald can further align its operations with stakeholder expectations, while also fostering long-term value creation. By incorporating stakeholder insights, Emerald is well-positioned to continue driving impactful sustainability initiatives and strengthening its commitment to transparency and responsible governance. The Materiality Assessment will be repeated with stakeholders every 2-3 years or as required..
Though Emerald is early in its sustainability journey, it remains deeply committed to ensuring safe operations, corporate responsibility, and reducing its environmental footprint. The Company’s ongoing efforts reflect a steadfast dedication to not only meet, but exceed sustainability standards, creating a positive legacy in our operational areas.
