Restoring Biodiversity – Beng Tree Planting Program

Emerald recognises the importance of biodiversity and has implemented several measures across its projects to ensure our impacts are minimised. The Okvau Gold Mine implements a Biodiversity Offset Program where impacts cannot be avoided, covering approximately 9000ha within the Phnom Prich Wildlife Sanctuary. Reintroducing the endangered Beng tree, a timber species severely impacted by logging, is a focus of our biodiversity initiatives within and beyond our offset. Since 2018, more than 15,000 trees have been planted, the majority in the Phnom Prich Wildlife Sanctuary.

Our 2024 Beng tree planting program saw another 3,555 trees added to our biodiversity sites. Of these trees, 970 were supplied by our School Nursery Program.
